Another Target Trip Today - 6.7

So my girlfriend and I decided to make a trip to Target today to pick up some more things. Like snacks, our kids can go through snacks! Esp. now that school will soon be out. Well anyway, we have our coupons ready, and make our way through the Aisles. We get up to the registers, and are then told that they are now limiting the number of coupons. Two per same item purchased. Well okay, but I wish I had known this ahead of time. I hate having to re-organize my pile of items. Afterwards, I still walked out of there with a great deal. I ended up saving about $32.00. Not bad. The big find I was able to get was Axe Shower gel, trial size. I had 2 $1.00/1 coupons that did NOT exclude the trial size items. I was able to get two bottles for free.

I will say that we did get to talking with the manager, and understand fully why this particular store is limiting the number of coupons you can use per transaction. I will now have to re-plan my Target trips into envelopes, and just make a few extra trips during the week.

With all that said, I would just like to reiterate a few things:

Some people who use coupons are giving the rest of us a bad name.

Please if you are a beginner couponer I ask you to follow a few of these simple rules:

1. Read your coupon before you use it. Does it say "Excludes Trial Sizes"? If so, please do not try and pass a trial size item through, and then give the cashier a hard time when it beeps.

2. Do not try and use an expired coupon, the stores will not be reimbursed for these coupons. They lose money when this happens.

3. When shopping, and you arrive at the register, be prepared and organized, you will find that most cashiers are very appreciative of this. And your transactions will go smoother.

4. If a coupon states that you need to buy 2 or 3 of an item, than that is what you need to do. Please do not try at "get away" with only buyng 1.

These are the 4 biggest rules that I find people try and pass through. Now I don't know about you, but I used coupons to SAVE money. I don't want to "screw" stores. I want to save as much money as I possibly can. I really don't want those few bad apples to ruin it for me.

Yes it's an absolute high to walk out of a store paying only a few dollars for several bags of items, but you need to abide by not only the rules on the coupons, but also by the stores policies.

Now if you happen to know that you are correct if a situation does arise, by all means challenge it. If you don't get anywhere with a store manager, or supervisor, then you have a choice, pay for the item and leave or not pay for the item, and leave. Go home and call corporate and hope for some type of rectification or take your coupon to another store. If you are calling corporate, I would suggest you make notes, writing down everything that had occurred, have the sale ad, if that is what you had an issue with, and also your receipt. Also have a pen and paper ready. Have the coupon with you as well. If you call the corporate offices, and are not prepared, you are not going to get very far. As always, attitude is everything, be calm cool and collected when talking to them, or in that case, anyone who you are challenging.

And lastly to all the store managers out there reading this blog, please understand this. Most of the couponers out there are good people, all trying to save money in these tough economical times. When you have a sale, and we have coupons making the item either free or extremely cheap, yes we stock up, we ask family and friends for their coupons, and some will even purchase coupons online, so we will usually end up with anywhere from 5 to 30 coupons for the same item, some of us have large families, or like a particular brand, some of us buy supplies to last the year, depending upon what the expire dates are on a certain items, not to return the items later for cash, but so we don't have to pay full price. We have stock piles in our homes. We do this to save money, and for no other reason than that. It's that simple. I myself have 26 bottles of salad dressing. This will be made to last my family the summer.

Now, my story isn't over. I like going to Target on Fridays, as this is when my fave cashier works. Well, she got all but 5 of my coupons to go through, big surprise, it was all my Target coupons! I always have trouble with these! I asked if she could type them in and she then responded with "We aren't allowed to do that, but you can bring it over to guest services and see if they can scan them". Okay I thought, I wasn't about to get on her bad side, as she is one of the nicest cashiers I have run into.

I paid for my purchase ( at this time, my total is $25.35 plus taxes.) and made my way to guest services, where there was standing the one clerk who has ALWAYS given me, not only a hard time, but attitude. (This girl really needs an adjustment.) I explain the situation, and what the cashier had said to me, she begins to try and scan them, and nothing. She then puts that attitude on of hers, and tells me there is nothing she can do. So I challenged, and she called, one of the managers over.

He looks over my receipt, and actually asked me if I "stacked" to which I replied, yes of course. He responds by inquiring if I had seen how to do this on a blog. I said yes, He then proceeds to tell the several clerks that if a coupon does not scan to punch in the numbers. Well they all stated the same sentence, "Well that's not what Chris said to do, if a coupon doesn't scan we are not to accept it." The manager, who's name was Craig, was now waiting on me, said that is what they ARE to do. He handed me my $5.00 and apologized for the inconvenience. WOW! This is one of the few times I actually walked out of Target with a grin on my face!

The Boon Moments...

What do you do when you have a laundry room full of food, and a 200 lb dog who has not only learned how to open the door, but has also learned to shut himself in there?

I will tell you. Nothing! There isn't anything you can do short of booby trapping the door with barbed wire! And it's not like we can put the food up higher, because there isn't an area that he can't reach. If tempted enough, he can stand on his hind legs and clear the top shelves. He is taller than I am.

So the mystery remains, how is Boon getting this door opened? It is a round handle? I don't get it. Could this dog actually be smarter than me?

We left for dinner with the whole family tonight, to see our cousin off. (He is a Marine, and leaving for Japan on Saturday for 2 years.) When we arrived back home, Boon was not at the front door to greet us, only Byron. This is usually not a good sign. We scanned room to room, to see what it was this time that would be laying chewed to pieces on a floor. Nothing. Suddenly we heard the whimpering coming from the laundry shoot. My husband looked at me, and I at him. Didn't you shut the door I asked? Yes, of course I did. I made sure it was shut tight. He replied.

As bad as things could have been, all that was chewed was an empty old gift bag. Dumb dog, he could of had Pop Tarts! Okay so he's not smarter.

I know what we will be doing this weekend, putting some baby locks on the doors! You can't really stay too mad at that face!

The Beginning of My Stockpiling...

As I have said in recent posts, I am new to stockpiling. I have only been doing this for about 3 months now. I look around my laundry room, and cannot believe how quickly things add up! I will then look at my receipts, and say to myself, "Wow". In the past, my stockpile cost, would have been astronomical, now, the entire stockpile cost, doesn't even add up to what I use to pay for groceries for two weeks!

I am trying to get my husband to find a new place for his tools! I haven't made any headway though.



When we bought this house, all the shelves were already there. This has been a big money saver, although, we are looking to rearrange, and redesign, to maximize the space.



I'm in the organizing phase, I have been moving items to where it makes more sense, and moving items out of this room, and relocating them to a walk in closet in the next room.



At least it is somewhat organized. If it wasn't I would probably be pulling my hair out. I can at least find things, and know what I have. I'll be happy once we have everything in place, and some additional shelves put up.

Don't forget to load your ecoupons from Upromise! They have all been updated this morning!

Now when I update mine, I usually select all coupons, so in case I happen to pick something up for a neighbor or a friend, I will get the dollar amount on that item as well. Do you select all the coupons? I have gotten a few extra dollars this way. The best part was I didn't even realize I have gotten an ecoupon item until I saw my monthly statement from them! What a nice surprise that was.
